I have been a resident of North End Halifax all my life; born and raised by my mother in Uniacke Square, along with my older sister and brother. My mother raised us to take pride in what we do and to always remember where we came from.
For the past 37 years I have worked with various organizations in the North End which has provided me with insight into the challenges that many of our community members face. My professional experience has afforded me the opportunity to hear the concerns of our seniors, Canadian newcomers, and individuals that are considered members of vulnerable groups.
The landscape of the community has changed over the years but some of the issues and concerns of the residents have not.
As a youth, I spent much of my free time at the Community YMCA, participating in leadership programs and playing basketball. Many of my Community YMCA mentors were volunteers and, as a result of spending time with these positive role models, I also picked up the baton and give back to the community as a volunteer.
Volunteering has provided me with the opportunity to support not-for-profit organizations in the fulfillment of their mandate and connect across organizations to collaborate on positive community initiatives. My volunteer experience includes:
Volunteer - Community YMCA;
Board Member – Harbour City Homes; and
Board Member – North End Business Association.
As the owner/operator of a small business, I understand and have navigated the challenges of making a dream become a reality. Supporting our small businesses will bring further economic growth in our community.
I am proud of my North End roots and I have raised my son in this vibrant community. Growing up in the North End Halifax has played a vital role in who I am today. I am a mother, small business owner and supporter, professional, volunteer, and most importantly, I am committed to working at making our community a place where all residents can experience a higher quality of life.
I look forward to the opportunity to represent you on Council!
